Proud to be part of the BIG organisation.....SCOUTING.

Scouting for boys.......the famous phrase I'm familiar with ever since I joined the movement 44 years ago.I'm not a boy anymore...but...somewhere deep inside, the same phrase still exists and I am proud to be part of the BIG, BIG movement.I'm proud and I'm not ashame to have that word 'boy scout' to be tagged to my name. Why should I?

Last night I was having a discussion with my fellow scouters (9W2BPT and 9W2JPT, licenced ham operators)....scouts' dicussion. Then came a couple of friends who are not scouts. We discussed about the oncoming King Scouts' Standardisation Camp to be held next weekend. My two friends were stunned listening to the many different camps each scout had to attend before being accepted to the standardisation camp.....so, we gave a briefing on 'how to be a King Scout'.

Tough and challenging....mentally and physically....especially for those at the age of 16+ having to be decision makers, planners, solo campers, craftsmen, ........gadjets....you name it.....better than the carpenters when it comes to producing camp tables and chairs, chefs...oh yes...singers, dancers, first aiders...........and the list goes on and on and on making my two friends rather suprised, puzzled.

Some of the activities

Discipline through marching drills

A scout erected this bivouac all by himself

.......go on a 40km hike....

.....no nails....and tall....

.....and even taller.....

.......and the tallest......

Congratulations Shiang Yang Scouts.....the tallest scouts pioneering tower in Malaysia by Guiness Book of Records
40.26 metres

What is the 'thing' that makes this ordinary youngster tough mentally and physically strong and commited....my two friends wondered.

I guessed, its the true understanding of the Scouts Promise and the ten Scouts laws. The BP Spirit lives......Once a scout always a scout.....
